I have the same environment as yours
> os: w2k
> jdk: 1.4.1
> mysql: 3.23.55
> opencms: 5.0 rc 2
And it works, all I have to do is add one line at the top of startup.bat,
like below. (Maybe sequence of the setting matters? it should not but
sometime weird thing happens to computer like Ohio's weather)
set CATALINA_OPTS=-Dfile.encoding=ISO-8859-1
set CATALINA_HOME=c:\server\tomcat404
set JAVA_HOME=c:\app\jdk14
Thanks,
Larry

Hi Marcin,
even this does not work. by starting opencms there is always the following
error message:
root cause
java.lang.Exception: OpenCms startup failure: System file.encoding 'Cp1252'
not equal to OpenCms encoding 'ISO-8859-1'
any further help?
stefan

I had the same problem on exactly the same sys. At the very beginning of
startup.bat script I added something like this
set CATALINA_OPTS=-Dfile.encoding=ISO-8859-1 and it works exellent for
me :). I have no idea how to pass this env to win 2k Tomcat service so
I use startup.bat script.
