[opencms-dev] Why classes directory under modules in the VFS?

Hi:

I'm traying to understand why news modules have a classes directory in VFS. Is 
there only for exportation?
Because if we develop a new classe under the package module the only thing 
that we have to assure is that the class exists in Tomcat WEB-INF classes 
directory. I have tried this and works whitout the classes being in VFS.

I'm I rigth?
