[opencms-dev] Storing content outside the database

Hi,

I'm new to Opencms and I was wondering if there was a way to store content (eg.pdf files) outside the database but still make use of OpenCMS access control and resource management? I know OpenCMS has static export but all exported files are visible by all? (from what I have understood of the documentation)
