In the Unix world (including Linux), symbolic links ("symlinks")
are _roughly_ analogous to "shortcuts" in MS Windows. In Windows, a
shortcut file simply points to another file. In Unix, there are two types
of symlinks, hard and soft. For more information, consult a Unix reference
book.
