[opencms-dev] unable to set cookies

hello .*, 

i'm not able to set a cookie in an opencms-jsp. I saw a
possibly related entry in bugzilla, but remain unsure if it's about
setting cookies in general or just which path to chose for a 
cookie to be set. 
Before i delve into the code, my question now is: has anyone a clue
why it's not possible to set a cookie? Has anyone encountered a
similar situation (need for storing data beyond session scope) and
developed a smart workaround or patch? 

My environment: OpenCMS 5.0.1, Tomcat 4.1.29, MySQL 4.0.x
