[opencms-dev] apache/tomcat forward proxy config - help!!!

Can anyone advise me of the correct way to configure the forward proxy in 
apache (2.x - linux) so that tomcat can request external resources (from the 
internet - ie outside the firewall). I've read the docs and done what they 
say but tomcat is still being refused connection to external urls.
