Hi Vincenzo,
I know a very fast solution for your Download-Section, but I don't know if
that is what your are looking for. But it is at least a fast solution you
can show to your boss.
1.Create a page in your Download-Folder
2. Edit the page with the WYSIWYG-Editor and write your list of downloads by
hand.
3. You can mark any text in the Editor and click on the download-gallery
icon. Find your download-file and click on it once. Now the text is a link
which goes to your download-file.
This is the easiest way to create a download section.
Summary:
+: Every OpenCMS-User can edit this page, can add and delete download-links.
-: The download list is not automatically generated.
I don't know if that is exactly what you need. But it works.
Your questions about a project are answered in the manual i sent to you.
Look at page 23 - "Creating a new project".
Regards Kai

Hi all again,
Firsirst of all, thanks a lot:
- Steve: for your quick reply, but the case is that the book won't
be in my hands before some days.
In the same days I must produce something working :(
By now, ordering the book would be like ordering food with shipping
time exceding the "best before"...
-Kai: I have that pdf and I don't think it contain what I need.
Namely, how to embed the link to the galleries. For example, I did "created
as project" the opencms-demo (ok), create a folder named "Download" in
/opencms-demo/en (ok, I can see the new menu online) and put inside
/opencms-demo/en/Download a link to /system/galleries/download (ko). I can
see the link, but l as I follow it I get a 404 error from the browser.
WHAT'S THE WAY???
- Steve Mato (don't know if you are the same Steve): thanks a lot
for the trick, I'll take a look to the archive, but I'm a little bit
frustrated because I took a look at that yesterday (in other time than you,
I'm in Italy and we have some fuse of difference ;) ) and I did not find
anyting useful about the download section embedding... let's hope tomorrow
will be better :)
I'm tired (being working for the past eleven hours, almost no
food...) and I go home now (no solution even today).
I hope that if some of you, opencms gurus, have the time and the
will to help me on, I will find some useful hint in my mailbox tomorrow
morning...
I really hope the problem is clear, if not, please, tell me!
Thanx a lot to all of you guys
:)
Good night,
Vincenzo

Hi Vincenzo,
Your best bet, without doubt, is to buy a copy of the book
advertised on the OpenCms website see link below.
Weve only been developing with OpenCms 5.0.1 for the last two
months or so, and the book (together with the interactive documentation)
has been VERY useful indeed.

Subject: [opencms-dev] URGENT: I'm forced to leave without help...
Importance: High
Hi all,
I work for a big italian IT company on a big project for the
italian public administration.
I'm evaluating OpenCMS since some days and I' having
troubles...
*******JUMP TO THE "ISSUE" SECTION to avoid
backgrounds..*******
I need a web site framewark with CMS facilities and after
evaluating PhpNuke, PostNuke, Nukes, Exo Platform and others I finally get
to OpenCMS.
I like it (java, templating, security etc.), but I have to
produce a portal in a few days.
That's the reason why I choosed a framework instead of
developing the solution by myself.
I should use Jboss, and I understand that with OpenCMS 5 it's
impossible (opwncms.war instead of opencms context in the links problem,
many of you know ehat I'm talking about)
So I went to version 6 that installs very well in jboss,
but...
Version 6 is an alpha, but it would not be the real problem,
because old ver.5 modules don't work on ver. 6, and there isn't
documentation but the ver.5 module one.
******* ISSUE ********
So I installed Tomcat 4.1.30 (but I'd need to move to jboss,
sooner or later) and Version 5.0.1 (and I'd pass to ver. 6 as soon as
reasonable)
Ok I have the system working and now I have to:
- start from a semi-worked web-site like the web demo, modify
its L&F and
- provide the download section of the site using
galleries/download, just configured with sections I need
The problem is that also the module documentation isn't enough
to get started.
What a project is for? (it's not a site, is it offline or
online or what else?)
Which file I have to modify in order to get the layout I need?
What do I have to do in order see the download section in MY
site like I see it in the OpenCMS.org site?
******* ISSUE ********
I was enthusiast of discovering this product/project in which
I could partecipate also like a developer, but Mailing list archive is off
line, I'm dispirited and if I don't get answers to start up my site I'm
forced to leave and pass to something else.
It would be a pity.
I like the project and I repeat I could partecipate and adopt
OpenCMS in many other situations, also involving other people, but I'm
blocked without light, at the moment.
No clue, no quick start documentation, no mailinglist archive!
Would some of you, saint souls, please help me????
:)
