OK,
So it appears that I've found the answer to my first question. If you
pass the parameter "__locale=<blah>" to the engine, it will display the
specified locale's information, apparently defaulting to English if no
content is available in the requested language. However, in the
process, I did notice a "bug" in the editor, whereby changing languages
also changes the current "Element" to be the first element in the list.
Upon subsequent edits, you cannot fill in the "missing" elements for the
language you have chosen unless you specifically go into the "Elements"
editor and enable the other page elements. Maybe this is the intended
behavior?? In either case, it is certainly confusing... Or maybe I'm
just not used to it yet :)
So, anyone have an answer on the second question, re: adding more
languages to the dropdown?
Thanks!
Ben

Subject: [opencms-dev] OpenCMS 6.0-alpha2 Multi-language support
Hi,
I'm in the process of evaluating whether or not OpenCMS will
fit well for a new application we are developing. I like the new 6.0
editor and apparent support for multiple language content, but I am a
little confused on two points. Searching the mailing list archives has
not turned up much, and the documentation is pretty bare [or
nonexistant]. I am hoping that someone can answer these questions for
me, as I'd rather not go back to the 5.x version of OpenCMS.
1. I see that I can choose the template and edit the content in
a variety of languages [English/German by default]. However, I am
uncertain how I notify the server that it should serve me a specific
languages' content. I've tried specifying various querystring
arguments, URL modifications and altering my browsers accepted language
choice, but none seem to have any effect on the content generated. How
do I tell the OpenCMS system to spit out the alternate languages for a
given content page?
2. I see English and German are included by default in the 6.0
distribution. I also found that I can get Spanish added to the option
list if I install the 5.x localization package, however, the Spanish
option is not included in the preferences dialog of the administration
interface [even though it is available in the content editor]. How do I
go about adding additional content languages [_not_ administrative
localizations]?
Thanks!
Ben
