Whoops - sorry!  I appear to have misidentified the problem.  I realized
that the OpenCMS installation I had done from the regular distribution was
still working after I had upgraded to PgSQL 8, so I did another
installation from the 6.0 Beta 2 non-source distribution, and that worked
fine.  It seems I'm just having trouble with the source distribution.
