Thanks for the answer, I had this in mind from the documentation, but
unfortunately for some reason it does not seem to work properly in my
OpenCms. Neither values I set in newly created fields, nor the values in the
'locale' field are inherited automatically! Strange enough it seems to be
working for the Property 'NavImage'(although the value is not visible in the
properties)?!? 
I'm using OpenCms 6.0.0 / Apache Tomcat 5.5 / Oracle Database
