[opencms-dev] How to change DateTime format in XmlWidgets according to locale?

When using the DateTimeWidget I would like date and time shown in the
input field to appear in the format dd/mm/yyyy hh.mm What has to be
changed and where?
I am using the calendar-it.js that correctly displays in italian but the
date input field in the widget form shows up in the default date time
format mm/dd/yy hh:mm AM/PM.
