Sorry for posting my initial message twice. I had some trouble with 
getting into the list

Well, it does resolve.

My /etc/hosts says (among other stuff)
    127.0.0.1<tab>localhost

And I can ping myself without problem and my local firefox knows 
perfectly well, what localhost is, as it can find my local tomcat under 
localhost:8080.
But anyway - it's not that important, unless it could easily happen to 
someone else.
