Nigel Kersten (at least, I think it's he) has posted an excellent-sounding
partial solution to this and other problems here:

I do hope that full HTML editing of HTML document elements is possible in
6.2 final. It's odd to have a content management system which doesn't allow
management of HTML content!

Are there any news or even a solution for this I might have missed?
It's quite annoying not to be able to freely enter images within XML content
(html widget), but with the WYSIWYG editor within normal pages. It's also
hard to explain to customers ;)
