[opencms-dev] How to display external resources?

i tried to develop this process on my own but i didn't understand how opencms match the template to the xml representing the resource.
Do you know it? Can you explain me?

  Opencms cannot maintain its own content types in the regular file system and there are no special APIs for using content that is stored in the regular filesystem.
  So, I think you would have to develop the processing yourself or write the content into the VFS.
