I suspect it won't make any difference in startup time. I get the
impression that the native libraries improve IO: something you would
notice only on heavily loaded systems.

Also compare VM in -server vs -client mode. I recently switched from
the default client mode to the server mode (due to some odd behavior
in Hibernate 3.1 with the Linux VM in client mode) and boy it does
increase startup time a lot (20sec - 50sec). However I am assured from
many posts out there that once running, it runs significantly faster.
Because of that long delay during a restart I'm looking into the
possibility of temporarily starting another instance of Tomcat before
a restart and programming the Apache mod_proxy front end to switch to
that while I reboot the main instance of Tomcat. Has anyone tried
something like that before I go start researching how to go about
doing this?
Joe.

hello list,
ok, so i pretty much figured out that deleting files during the vfs
import (i.e. while importing a <files/> section) is not really an
option. whatever. but: i still need to compare two trees, the local one
in the filesystem and the remote one in the vfs.
so, while doing recursions into directories, i might find myself in:
file://${WORKSPACE_LOC}/eclipse_project/vfs/sites/foo/bar
and find a missing folder there. obviously, i want to check it out from
the remote side, let's say:
vfs://user:password@localhost/Offline/sites/foo/bar/test.jsp
i can now do an export on the remote side using CmsExport and include
this file. but in the manifest, the paths are absolute, i.e. the
corresponding file node (and the directory structure in the zip file)
will look like this:
<file>
<destination>vfs/sites/foo/bar/test.jsp</destination>
[...]
</file>
is there a way to tell CmsExport to do a "relative" export, i.e.:
<file>
<destination>test.jsp</destination>
[...]
</file>
that is, pass it a base directory from which to work, like the import
path for the other side, the CmsImport?

Hello EveryB at dy,
My problem is very simple, but it make me crazy / ..../ ../ ....
i have 6.0.3 opencms , and we want to migrate to 2.1, but we are very "men" and we would like to export all the user with his properties ( groups , permisions , etc ) from 6.0.3 and then , make an import into 2.1.
I make a snifing/ searchin / look at / look in / surfing all web-world around and i did not find any tool into opencms which allow it. I find:
-You can export/import files and modules
- If you make and export/import db , you have problems with table cms_users, since it generate a string which depend on the M.A.C , etc... etc...
Any help will be very gracefully and i think a lot of people in the future will have the same problem.
Peace / Best Regards
Ruben Martin

Hi all,
I'm trying to scale down images but something seems to be wrong: using the following code, I get no output (as in *nothing*) in the rendered html document:
<cms:img src="../resources/images/sys/DE/something.gif" width="400" height="400"></cms:img>
Same if I do the following:
<cms:img src="../resources/images/sys/DE/something.gif" width="400" height="400"/>
Scaling itself seems to work, as I can scale images by appending "?__scale=w:400,h:100".
Looking at the sources or the javadocs doesn't help me much. I'm running OpenCms version 6.2.1.
One more related question: it seems like scaling will generate borders (stripes) at the top and bottom (or left/right) if the size given by width and height does not match the original aspect ratio. Is there a way to, say, scale down the image to a specific width but maintaining its aspect ratio?
Cheers, Jan

hello list,
just curious: why is it i can't do this (in 6.0):
String[] resourcesToExport = new String[] { "/sites/default/" };
CmsExport ce=new CmsExport(
co,
filename,
resourcesToExport,
true,
true
);
it gives me an exception saying i tried to access a folder as a file.
yes, it's a folder. but if export a file WITHIN that folder, it exports
the folder just fine ... why can't i export the folder alone? it's not a
big difference, or is it?

if you export it, it's a single zip file. other than that, you could try

if it still doesn't work, you may want to try using firefox plugins such
as:
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2526/
or
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/575/
to verify your headers are actually being sent the way you think they
are, because it seems it's not a problem of WHAT is being sent, but
rather IF it's being sent. also, last time i checked, internet explorer
had a tendency to think it was cleverer than the header in some situations.

Kai, RuiXian, Ruben,
Many thanks for your help and your support, you're very kind!!
The option that finally I've implemented and works is the one that
modify the opencms.jar.
It's working properly now.
Many thanks again!!! :-*

Dear Ruben,
you can use the upgrade wizard to upgrade your system to 6.2.1 or 6.2.2
Of course you should do a database dump before, just to be prepared if something goes wrong, but for me it worked well.
If you really want to export and import your data, you can use the "export database" function (it's in the Administration view under "database tools").
This function should export user data. I don't think that different MAC addresses of your computers will cause trouble with this. Where do you have this information from?
What is not exported with this function are web users. If you use web users, then I don't know how you would export and import them.
Hope that helps
Christian

Have you checked if the current site root is set as expected?
As you may know, opencms will always add the site root in front of the paths you specify.
try to do something like
String myPath = co.getRequestContext.removeSiteRoot( "/sites/default/" );
String[] resourcesToExport = new String[] {
myPath
};
Then it will hopefully work if your site root is set to "/sites/default/", but also with the site root being set to "/".

Well, no problem about the directory opened, I've modified the Module
parameters, and it's perfect for us!!
But.....
I have a question that I've no idea if it's possible, easy or not.....
Now, I have a file in my pc called ftpweb.fs that is a file that execute
the ftp to the workplace, using "Ftp Shell for Win32".
I would like to have this file into the workplace itself, and that we
can execute from the workplace, not from my pc.
What about this?
Is it clear my explanation?
Thanks and best regards,
Maria

hi maria,
i am glad this was helpful. however, with the other thing it's more or
less bad news. if i understand correctly, you have a file on your pc
that is called "ftpweb.fs" that starts your ftp application if you
double click on it, which then allows you to transfer files between your
local machine and the opencms server. however, this is an application
you need to start on your local machine, because you need a client
application on your side to talk to the (opencms) server on the other
side. running the client and the server both on the same machine doesn't
make too much sense. also, "ftp shell for win32" is obviously an
application for win32 which won't run on the server (which i assume is
some flavour of unix) anyway. the ftpweb.fs file is probably just
associated with the application on your machine through an entry in the
windows registry. however, i am just guessing there, so i may as well
just have gotten it wrong, if so, please let me know :)

.rm

If you do a full install you can find some example code in
/sites/default/xmlcontentdemo doing that.
Examples using tags and examples using scriptlets can both be found
there.

Ok, we started again the spanish localization project for OpenCms
6.2.x, this time is hosted at Google's forge, any contribution will be
very welcome.

The only thing that comes to my mind is the synchronization feature (you
can activate it in the admin view under "workplace tools".
This feature will sync down all files and upon import it will remove all
files that have been exported but are not there anymore on import time.
I don't know how this works, though. Maybe you can derive something
helpful from that, maybe not.
You couldlso try to delete a file but not publish it and then do an
export of that part of the folder tree. Maybe the manifest file is able
to express the deletion-information. Like that it should be easy to find
out.
These are the only things that come to my mind.

Just another thought. I don't know how mature the opencmsftp module
already is, but you could try installing it on both servers and then
just just use some FTP-capable file synchronization tool on these two
filesystems (especially for unix it should be easy to find one).

Dear Ruben,
you can use the upgrade wizard to upgrade your system to 6.2.1 or 6.2.2
Of course you should do a database dump before, just to be prepared if something goes wrong, but for me it worked well.
Christian

The only tool for this that I know of is the database export tool.
Probably the UUID of a user will be used, if you specify user-related
permissions. But if user-Ids and files are exported and imported
together (which the database tool does) I do not know if that would
create problems. I don't know if the UUID of the Admin user and the
default usergroups is identical on all systems or if it is created when
the system is installed. If these IDs are identical on all systems, then
I don't think that there could be trouble in this area.
Apart from this I do not know where UUIDs could create trouble. Their
only point is to generate unique keys. After a key is generated, it does
not matter anymore, if the key-generation used the MAC address of your
computer or of another one. The only question would be if that key is
used in tables that you cannot export/import.
As already mentioned I can only think of the user and the groups table
here, but you could easily try if this leads to trouble or not.
