this may not be the answer your hoping for, but there's a book describing
describing how to compile OpenCms:

Extending and customizing OpenCms through its Java API

I think it also exists as PDF and it's not too expensive.
I haven't compiled OpenCms myself, but it's worth the
effort to integrate it into Eclipse to be able to debug your website.
