[opencms-dev] problem installing opencms.war as ROOT.war (debian tomcat 5.5)

I have a bit of trouble with installing opencms (7.0.5)
in a debian tomcat 5.5 environment.

They divided the webapps from the tomcat tree such that there is:

/usr/share/tomcat5.5
/usr/share/tomcat5.5-webapps

When I deploy ROOT.war (mv'ed from opencms.war) into the webapps directory
somehow the extracting mechanism in tomcat doesn't seem to work.

Does anyone know why that is so?
