I had the same problem. What I did was update the email jar(s) (can't remember if there was 1 or 2 jars) shipped with OpenCms to newer version(s). After the update, I was able to set the port number programatically.
HTH
Cheers,
Paul

Subject: [opencms-dev] Configure an smtp port
Hi, I'm triying to use the opencms contact form which is include in Template One. My problem is that I want to use a yahoo or gmail account, but it doesn't use the default 25 smtp port. I tried to change the port in the opencms-system.xml file, but it doesn't work. Any suggestion?
Thanks
