Hi Darren,

"OpenCms 7 Development", by Dan Liliedahl, is no doubt very helpful to anyone new to OpenCms: http://www.codedroids.com/en/opencms/packt-opencms7-review.html

Also, there's the wiki: http://opencms-wiki.org

OpenCms has a relatively steep learning curve, and isn't necessarily very friendly to beginners - depending on your needs.

Although the user interface is quite intuitive, you won't find a large range of "plugins" (called "modules" in OpenCms lingo), like you would for, say, Joomla!. However, the demo modules, which you can opt to install along with OpenCms, should enable you to create fully-functional websites quite easily. But without further extending OpenCms, you will be limited to the features offered by these modules. (Which of course might not be a problem at all - again, depending on your needs.)

My own experience is that OpenCms is better suited for those with at least some experience in programming/coding. Although it it possible to create sites using the demo templates/resources - e.g. the so-called Template Two - OpenCms is best when used as a foundation to build upon yourself.

For a more "lightweight" and beginner-friendly CMS, I'd have a look at Joomla!.

Cheers,
Paul

Subject: [opencms-dev] OpenCms

Hi,

Is there a tutorial for OpenCms anywhere?

I would be a novice in web creation - only dabbled so is OpenCms 'friendly' to beginners?

I appreciate any feedback to help.

Thanks

Darren
