OpenCms has small issues during publishing:
The Flex-Cache and Schema-Definition Cache will be cleared on every publish event.
The Schema-Definition-Cache is now fixed: http://bugzilla.opencms.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1900
The Flex Cache is too Complex and must be cleared during publishing.

Also dom4j has small issues with concurrency. We use a Patched Version:

Well... we got on a cluster of 2 machines (2 vms in a intel octocore with 6gb ram allocated for each) a test with JMeter (4 slave machines, quadcores), everything in the same LAN, we got up to 2000 simultaneous access, every moment, for 2 hours straight, for the same page and for random pages, and the maximum peak we got from the servers was 30% from the overall capacity, with no errors at all with any of the responses (full integrity of every single page final page ranging from 150 to 300kb each).
