[opencms-dev] importing files from the filesystem

Maybe I'm overlooking the obvious at the moment, but how can I
import some files that reside on the filesystem of the server where
Opencms is running? I understand that I can upload files from my local
filesystem but when the file resides on the host? I tried to zip them (a couple of PDFs) but importing them with the database administration tool
say that the manifest file is missing.
