Hi list,

we just published an update of our public OpenCms demo (http://www.demo-opencms.de/).
It is now (perhaps the first) in version 8 of OpenCms.

We did it just like Micheal Emmerich said it in the track "Upgrading from OpenCms 7.x to OpenCms 8".
- installing OpenCms 8
- exporting modules and contents from O7.
- importing both into O8.
- copying custom jars to the lib-folder.
- adjust settings in the config files.
- restart Tomcat.
- done!

And it took us - like he promised - just a few minutes.

By now it is without the drag and drop feature and there is no frontend login available. So to see the new advanced direct edit features, you have to login to the backend and request a page from the Offline project.

By the way the content of the demo is in german. So if you don't find the way to the workplace login, it is: http://www.demo-opencms.de/demo/opencms/system/login/index.html. Please login with demo/demo.

Sorry for not telling you the truth yesterday at the OpenCms Days roundup when saying, the update of our demo will be in a few month, but on my way back from Cologne to Stuttgart by train, I decided to try an update of the demo on my laptop. As this went smoothly as described, we decided to do an update on the live system as well.

So folks. Go ahead an use OpenCms 8. It worth it.

Best regards

I'll join in on this:

the meeting was definitely worth going to. I am very happy how the Advanced Direct Edit has been done and looking forward to work with it.
