I don't think so. Each resource has its own version history (the history
records property changes, content changes and it is also possible to
undelete deleted resources).
Maybe your question comes from thinking about source code management
systems: There is no such thing as a global revision ID for a folder or
the whole file system which increases whenever something below changes -
rather each resource has its own history. The maximum history depth can
be configured.

Yes, copying is not a problem. You can make actual copies and
alternatively you can create siblings, which are like hard links in Unix
file systems (i.e. one file of content can have more than one file
system descriptor and thus more than one file name in opencms).
