Without understanding what you did in detail I can advise that the 
typical ritual I'm using when things I'm expecting do not appear is

a) clear the browser cache (FF CTRL-SHIFT-DEL)
b) flush the Opencms caches (primarily the jsp cache)
c) examine opencms.log for any (xml) errors
