I guess your new site's URL should be
http://opencms.company.com:8081
instead of
http://localhost:8081

Please check in "Launchpad" -> "Websites"
I assume the Demo site's URL is already http://opencms.company.com:8080 in your case
Check also "Server URL" (http://opencms.company.com:8080) in "Global configuration" (Gear wheel on top)

I assume you've also configured the appropriate tomcat connector for port 8081?

The same configuration is working here (Demo site :8080 + two other sites on :8081 and :8082)

Best,
Gerd

Sorry, forgot to mention few things:

I can still access the Tomcat main page from http://opencms.company.com:8080 (so nothing wrong with that port number)

And when I access http://opencms.company.com:8080/opencms/system/login the error I get is as follows (this is an OpenCMS specific message):

404
Page Not Found
The requested resource "/opencms/system/login" was not found on the server.

This server runs OpenCms - the open source content management system

Thanks
Nili

Subject: [opencms-dev] Cannot login from outside server

Hi,

I have installed OpenCMS v11 on a company server. On the server itself, I can access it using http://localhost:8080/opencms/system/login.
>From my laptop externally (and while on company VPN), I can access the same as http://opencms.company.com:8080/opencms/system/login<http://localhost:8080/opencms/system/login>
This was all working fine.

I am going through the tutorial to get familiar and create a template (from my laptop using external URL):
         https://documentation.opencms.org/opencms-documentation/creating-a-website/creating-a-template-jsp/

While on "Step 5: Configure your template for a site", I created the website using http://localhost:8081 as instructed.

However, right after this step, I could not access OpenCMS from my laptop using http://opencms.company.com:8080/opencms/system/login<http://localhost:8080/opencms/system/login>

I can still access and login successfully from the server using http://localhost:8080/opencms/system/login. (I also noticed that the website is created there). So I dont think I broke anything.

What do I need to do so I can use the product from my laptop using the external link, and not the localhost? What went wrong? Why did it stop working?

Greatly appreciate your help.

Thanks
Nili
