Hello Atle,
as MySql 5 has reached its EOL (see: https://endoflife.date/mysql ), it
would not be the worst idea to update you mysql to a more recent version.
However, I do not think that the DB causes the issue as you say that the
Mercury tmeplate and content type works. And they use the same internal
mechanism of OpenCms as you demo template and types.
