Subject: [opencms-dev] How to know the contentload result size prior
to looping?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Hi,

I have a bit of a basic problem here. I can't seem to find a solution for
when I try to find the number of results of a contentload without looping
through the results.
E.g.:

<cms:contentload collector="allInFolder" param="${philosophiesPath}|
philosophy">
<cms:contentinfo var="info" />
<%-- Some initialization based on the result size in the "info"
variable. --%>
<%-- After the initialization all results must be looped. --%>
</cms:contentload>

If I do it this way, the initialization of the variables naturally occurs
for every result.
Another problem I am confronted with is that the div with id "philosophies"
should be displayed only when there is at least one result for the
contentload.
If I can solve one problem the second one is solved in the same way
ofcourse.

Thanks,

Sacha
My first index.html page in /sites/mysite throws an error 500.
How can I debug this error 500 to find out what the cause is.
To me this is one of the weirdest things with OpenCms/Tomcat that
you (me) never knows how to effectively debug such a situation
when this opencms error 500 info page comes up. Not the slightest hint
where an why it is thrown.
When you open the page in the 'offline' project, you usually get a stack
trace right on the screen (or after clicking the Details... button on the
error page.

For the 'online' project, you can check the log file under
WEB-INF/logs/opencms.log for the stack trace.
To me this is one of the weirdest things with OpenCms/Tomcat that
you (me) never knows how to effectively debug such a situation
In the vein of tracking down an Error 500 I changed the template
property from empty to something meaningful (a template in
/system/org.yaml.frontend/templates - I named it that way) hoping to get
a more controllable behaviour of the page rather than getting it
assigned the default Alkacon template in case of the template field not
being assigned.
I asked in another thread, why this has to be the case at all that
Opencms adds an Alkacon default template in case of an empy template
I agree with Marc - especially if you have a DB or other stuff running on the machine, then you should better go for 1GB to have some breathing space.

You can tune the garbage collector to not keep much reserve memory and limit the memory usage of other Applications and then things might be squeezable into 512MB, but it would sure be a bit tight and as a garbage-collected system, Java does not react well at all to being partially swapped out by the OS.
Hi,
how much is your Xmx setting of your vm?
Maybe first increase these setting.
(If not set, it is 64mb, on an 256mb (headless linux) server, I think you
can go up to 128mb-156mb, try "free -m" when the java server is stopped and
watch out for the free entry in the -/+ buffers/cache line)
Anyway, 512-1024MB on an dedicated server would be better (and an increased
xmx value;)).
Bye
What are you trying to achieve / why is the default template bothering?

A simple text page (of resource type 'plain') does not throw this error,
only structured content (using an xsd).
The use case doesn't get clear to me - can you give an example where you'd
use structured content (do you?) but no template to it?

You could just create an empty template and assign it as the default
template for all structured content where you don't want the OpenCms default
template/error message to display.
The default templates are defined in the opencms-modules.xml config file.

Or just create a jsp page/resource instead of a structured content element
(but depends on whatever you're trying to do).

One way would be using the contentload-tag to do the counting before hand:

<c:set var="cnt" value="0"/>
<cms:contentload collector="allInFolder" param="${philosophiesPath}|
philosophy"><c:set var="cnt" value="${cnt++}"/></cms:contentload>

Then you can do the check...
<c:if test="${cnt ge 1}"> ... </c:if>

But note: it occurs to me that there's a bug in the contentload/loop when
there are no elements in the folder and you activate direct edit. The
contentload loop always counts 1, regardless whether there is one or none
element found in a folder.
This problem has been reported before in the mailing list and we came across
it as well in a recent project, seems like a bug to me. Not sure if it's
been fixed in 7.5 already.
Hi

I found this problem myself - mysteriously the DB size does not shrink on
deletion even when the history settings are set to not keep deleted objects.
Perhaps the developers can comment?

One work around is to export all the content and modules into a new 'empty'
opencms installation. You'll lose all the version history but the size will
shrink. You could use the opportunity to upgrade to the latest version of
opencms at the same time.

If you have particularly large content items such as video, you could keep
this outside of opencms to reduce the db size (of course you'll lose the
content management for these items!). This is the downside of keeping all
content in the database.
Hello all,

I'm maintaining quite a big content rich website using OpenCms 7, and the
mysql database is gone way over 10GB. I deleted about 1.3 GB of content from
the VFS by creating a module, exporting it and the deleting it.

After that, the database size actually grew with about 1 GB. I deleted the
history for the deleted files from the administration view and still, the
database isn't getting any smaller.

Have you ever encountered such a situation? There has to be a solution,
otherwhise, the database will never get smaller as the content is dropped
from the website.

Thank you,

Chuck
Hi,

Is there any module (or bult-in functionality) for scheduled publishing in
opencms 7 (I know there was not in 6), or if my customer wants it, should I
have to develop it myself?

When is opencms 7.5 beta launch scheduled? What will be its primary new
funcionalities?

Why a 7.0 - 7.5 sudden jump?

Thanks!!!...
When I set up a confirmation page for the user registration page, if the
button to go back and fix an entry, you are returned to the registration
page to make the corrections (works as expected). However, if the entries
are correct and you hit the submit button, the submission fails. I checked
the logs and don't see any errors there. It appears the form never submits.

I set up the profile page and the confirmation page works correctly. The
confirmation email is generated as well. Has anyone experienced this
behavior?
I am using OpenCms 7.0.5
Hi Steve,

no difference between published PDF docs in the online version or the
offline version.

The Indexer is org.opencms.search.CmsVfsIndexer
The document type pdf uses org.opencms.search.documents.CmsDocumentPdf

The project is not online or offline but a custom project I created.

When I rebuild the index - the log shows all pdf with "OK" but no
search result shows up :(
