    Problem solved. The documentation under documentation.opencms.org
    seems to be reliable WRT the ROOT app configuration.<br>
    I messed with redirecting to the secure site (<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://">https://</a>) and during
    the experimenting I frivolously put a symbolic link in webapps,
    namely<br>
    opencms->ROOT. This was killing me.<br>
