Hi,
here's an update on the latest status of OpenCms:
+++ Current status of the project
The current major release of OpenCms is 4.4.6. The current development
version of OpenCms is 4.5.17. The major relase is available as binary and
now also as source distribution (see below). The development version is
available only through the OpenCms CVS (see
http://www.opencms.org/opencms/opencms/service/cvs.html). The next major
release will be 4.6, which we expect to be finished in the first quarter of
2002. If 4.6 is released, there will also be an update description / path
for users of the current major relase (which today is 4.4.6). If major bugs
in the 4.4.6 release are found, there will probably a fixed version 4.4.7.
+++ OpenCms source distribution availablle
For people interested in the OpenCms core technology, we do now provide a
dedicated source distribution. Please see
http://www.opencms.org/opencms/opencms/service/core.html for details on how
to download and compile the source. In case you intend to contribute to the
OpenCms core development, please make sure you use the latest version from
the CVS source tree. The source distribution ZIP file provided for download
is the code of the latest major release, not the current development status
of OpenCms. The ZIP provides a good starting point, but contributions should
be based on the latest development version. The way to do it is to first get
the source distribution (because it also contains the libaries), see if you
can build this, and then simply checkout the latest /opencms directory from
the CVS, replacing the /opencms directory from the source distribution.
+++ Bug tracking system online
To speed up the bug fixing process, we now have a tracking system based on
Bugzilla online at http://www.opencms.org/bugzilla/ . If you think you found
a bug in OpenCms, you can use the OpenCms Bugzilla to report it. Please make
sure to check first if it is not already known. Of course, you also can
dowload the source distribution and fix the bug yourself ;-)
+++ Status of the core development
The current development version is 4.5.17. This will be the base for the
next major release 4.6. Development is proceeding at good pace, please check
the updated current project page at
http://www.opencms.org/opencms/opencms/projects/current.html to get a
feeling on what the core team is working on.
Best Regards,
Alex Kandzior
