hi there,

in order to use mySQL you need to have a JDBC driver, try the mm-mysql
(http://mmmysql.sourceforge.net/). make sure the jar file is in your
CLASSPATH

have fun!

Subject: [opencms-dev] ocsetup: Cannot connect to MySQL server on
localhost:3306

Hello,

This seems like a FAQ, but i couldn't find anything that helped me
in the list archive. (Is there a technical/installation FAQ?)

I have followed the installation instructions for opencms 4.4.6 on
the opencms site. I run tomcat 4 and sun jdk 1.3.1 on a debian
sid system.

When i try to set up opencms with ocsetup I get a mysql error
when ocsetup tries to creat database:

"java.sql.SQLException: Cannot connect to MySQL server on
localhost:3306. Is there a MySQL server running on the
machine/port you are trying to connect
  to? (java.net.ConnectException)"

It seems like there is no mysql connection but the mysqld is up
and running and i can connect with the mysql client and other
software (like phpMyAdmin). Mysql client connected without any
problems with: "mysql -u root -p -P 3306 -h localhost". These
settings are the same which I use with opencms.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to figured out which how i can
log the specific mysql connection that opencms does. Any clues on
good log techniques in tomcat would be a blessing too.

Does anyone know what could be wrong. Do i need to install any
extra JDBC-drivers or does opencms have that builtin? Do i need to
tell tomcat about mysql or opencms in any way?

Oh, by the way is there any document revision management support
in opencms?

TIA / fredrik
