[opencms-dev] OpenCMS Beta 2 - default template

Hi Joe,

1) I've created a new master template, and when I select it from the
dropdown list while creating a new page, it acts like it worked. But
then when I open the new page, the default template is applied. I then
have to edit the control code and change the master template name there
from the default to my new template. Then it works. Why doesn't it
accept the master template specified when creating the page?

This might be a bug. I have to check this out.

2) Is there a recommended way to use the new streamlined directory
structure? Should the templates all be put in the modules/default/
directories? Or, should I create a new set of directories for templates
somewhere else?

Yes. Go to the admin screen and select the "Module Mangement". Switch to
the "Offline" Project. Press the "Create Module" button in the upper
left corner. Enter a java like package name for the "Packetname" eg.
"my.template.package". In "Modulname" enter some nice name like "My
first template package". Description / Author / Email should be
self-explaining. Make Sure only "Module Type Simple" is checked. Leave
the "Maintanance Class" Field empty. Press "Ok". Publish the Offline
project with the new module.

Now switch to the "Explorer" View. You will now have a
"/system/modules/my.test.package/" folder wich has a set of sub-folders
looking much like the default package. Place your templates there in the
"templates" subfolder.

Anytime you feel like it go to the "Module Management" in the
"Administration" view and (in the "Offline" project) select "Export"
from your modules context menu. Everything in the
"/system/modules/my.test.package/" will be exported. You can import this
export in the "Module management" screen using the "Upload module from"
button, which is active only in the "Online" project.

Best Regards,
Alex.
