[opencms-dev] OpenCms used as pure CMS?

Hi All,

We are interested in investigating OpenCms' use as a "pure CMS" - i.e. to
use it as a storage and retrieval repository but to side-step the normal
page delivery mechanisms. Our application will provide its own
content-entry interface, and will be responsible for formatting the output
upon retrieval. Content items will be formed from multiple sections and we
will be investigating methods of performing queries on the content to
satisfy the application's research criteria.

The OpenCms workplace console will still be available for administration
tasks, and for managing content to one side of the "application" content
described above. Further, the "normal" site maintained by OpenCms will in
fact contain the front end to the application making use of the lower-level
CMS functions.

My question is this: although I believe this to be possible, is it in fact
an adviseable or "okay" way to use OpenCms? Are there any pitfalls, or
further recommendations?

Thanks,
Mark

Mark Foley
