Yes. The second option would work as well, just it would be confusing kind
of naming.

Check if you are using properly encoding settings for Catalina, see
conference archive for this issue.

What means "replace"?

Delete common\endorsed\xercesImpl.jar and copy lib\xerces-1_4_4.jar to 
common\endorsed\xerces-1_4_4.jar

or

rename lib\xerces-1_4_4.jar to common\endorsed\xercesImpl.jar

In both cases after tomcatrestart I can't start opencms!! It can't 
connect to DB and crashes with:

root cause was com.opencms.core.CmsException: 34 Registry error. 
Detailed error: couldn't init registry.
root cause was com.opencms.core.CmsException: 21 XML parsing error. 
Detailed error: Cannot parse XML file "null". 
org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: The encoding "ISO-8859-15" is not 
supported..
