[opencms-dev] Controlling OpenCMS via the Java API

Hello,
     I'm interested in using OpenCMS within another application.  I'd
like to programmatically control functions such as logging the user in,
document storage and retrieval and other basic functions.  Is there a
guide or an exposed API for doing this, or would it require mucking
around in the OpenCMS source?  I've seen a lot of documentation for
extending and creating applications within OpenCMS, but haven't found
anything on controlling it from the back-end.
