[opencms-dev] Acces Denied Error

I should mention that I have recently picked up a copy of "Building Websites
with OpenCMS" by Matt Butcher(Packt Publishing) and it is a worthwhile book.
(It doesn't cover version 6.x.x. though). I haven't read all chapters yet,
but I hope to come across something that will do a better job of addressing
permissions, etc.

The instructions and documentation are pretty sparse.
This looks like one of the open source projects where the cost of ownership
is higher than a commercial product simply because of the time it is going
to take to get it going.
It took a long time for me to get the installation right and now I get an
error 10 unknown user when I try to use the admin menu to change the Amin
password.
I am going to give it a bit more effort but I am not very optimistic from
what I have seen so far. I like the code but the documentation is a problem.
I am probably making it harder by starting with a 6.0 alpha.

I'm also new to OpenCMS(ver 5.x.x), and I have run into this problem as
well. I cannot provide good explanation as to how to correct this, but I
would suggest that you take a look at "Change Owners", "Change Groups", and
"Change Permissions". By manipulating these values, you can usually correct
access-errors. You'll probably need to be logged-in as "admin" to do this.

I don't think these access-errors point to bugs in OpenCMS, but rather they
point to a lack of understanding of how a site should be setup. What I mean
is, who(adminstrator, projectmanager, etc) should create folders, templates,
jsp's, etc, such that permissions to those objects are properly assigned.
If this is understood and the site setup properly, then users(i.e.
content-editors, etc) won't get errors when trying to work with their tasks.
I have read some documentation on the basics of permissions, but nothing yet
that answers the question "How do I use this to build my site?", or "What
are some strategies to use when building my site?". And so I am "stumbling"
alot too.

Thx,
Kevin

Hi All.

I'm new in OpenCMS.

When I try to follow
the tutorial steps to learn how to edit
an existing project, I receive the message:
"Access Denied" (not enough rights to
edit the project).

Can anyone help me ???

Cheers,
Fred.
