It was just not needed for an project (at last from us) so far, and no one
else has made a contribution either. 

It should be fairly simple to add. I figure someone who has what it takes
can "see" the architecture from the source code and then ask more specific
questions regarding the implementation details. 

BTW I recommend using the current 6.0 / CVS HEAD as a codebase for any
development effort for new databases, the OpenCms 5.0 code is far more
messy.
