1. Start developing your site placing 
   your content beneath "/" in site root "/",

   When finished developing move the content
   to your site root.

   Please test one single content file
   after and before moving.


2. Or set the synchronization folder in site root "/" to e. g. "/".

AFAIR I always lost the sync property in 2. after logging out.


Sorry for not testing now myself.
