[opencms-dev] Un/locking performance

    Hello!

We are currently building some huge website, with hundreds of
directories and thousands of documents. It is new wersion of existing
site, so we build a ZIP file (currently some 700MB) and then import it
into CMS via Database Import.

We encountered some performance problem when we need to unlock the
structure before publishing. It takes some 8-10 minutes
(Pentium4 at 2.8GHz, 1GB RAM), so even in case of so huge structure we
suspect some performance imperfection in the code. Or do you have some
other hint how to improve performance of this operation (JVM/DB
configuration)? Database is MySQL 4.0 or 4.1 - no visible effect on
performace.

And from the user's point of view: After confirming unlock dialog
there is no sign of activity (like during publishing) for a very long
time. You can hack this by clicking on the directory tree in the left
frame and refresh the file/directory list, then you can see the progress
of unlocking. But this is an "advanced technique" and it is hard to get
this idea for the common user.

   Thanks,

J.Ch.
