Using the pure opencms you need not a fast server!! 1GHz with 256MB RAM
is realy ok for the first start! BUT: The question is, how many
concurrent users should have access to this system at the same time
later? If you'll build for example a high-traffic erotik-site, it could
be that you need a server-cluster ;-) Opencms is a Java-App, and so it
needs a bit of RAM. But I'm a greenhorn and I've not a
productive-system at this time, so I can't tell you realy about the
needed resources, but my gut feeling says a server with 2GHz and 1GB RAM
is very fine for a medium website :-)
What think the opencms-gurus about this?

If I understand your question with my bumpy english right ;-) I say: YES
:-)
You can define diffrent domains/subdomains and direct them to diffrent
/home/dirs
You have systemwide an ACL for every resource and you can add groups and
users with diffrent permissions to them.
Its a realy complex system - but its great! :-) Be sure that you have
some people understanding java-programming, tomcat and linuxserver
administration, and than you should have a goot base to start with opencms.
Hope that helps a bit.

Anatol ;-)
