Have you thought about using rsync?  It's not the URL approach you were
referring to, but the end result would be the same.  The only issue
would be if someone is accessing a file that is in transmission, but
there are ways around that.

Hello all! 

Is it possible to export content items out of the OpenCms-VFS to another
server using the CMS's standard export functionality? 
If so - how can I determine the export path? 

Could it be seen like this?: 
The content is pushed out of the OpenCms-VFS to a static URL. The server
receiving the information has to "listen" to this URL in order to get
the information.
