[opencms-dev] Remotely connect to OpenCms

Hi,

I am investigating deploying OpenCms behind a abstraction service. This
abstraction layer is designed to decouple enterprise client services from
the underlying CMS implementation allowing for a change of CMS vendor
if/when the circumstances dictate.

To facilitate this, I need to be able to answer the following questions:

(1) Is it possible to connect to OpenCms from a different JVM (Using the
API)? [this will allow the abstraction service to occupy a separate
physical machine]
(2) If not, how would you recommend this abstraction service is
implemented:
 - As an extension of the OpenCms source code
-  As a server 'Module' deployed on each instance of OpenCms which exposes
the API?
(3) Or is there a much better way which I haven't thought of. :)
