Dear all,
I have a site with some templates. Some of the template operations are
quite expensive, but they need to be done only once per site and could
be cached.
I am roughly familiar with all the options for the cache property so
that should be possible to accomplish with caching.
But now my actual question: Does anyone know if the cache is also used
for static export?
It would probably make a tremendous difference, if it would, but I need
to restructure my templates quite in order for this to work.
Therefore my question: does anyone know anything about this?
Any answers are appreciated, because I would not like to put in so much
work and then find out that it was wasted.
Thanks and Greetings
Christian

Hi
did you move the "/system" folder in the opencms workplace? If you did
that, then you have probably destroyed the workplace, because the
workplace "lives" in that folder.
If you have precious resources in the system, you can export them with
the opencms shell.
Its directly in the WEB-INF directory of opencms.
You can use it to export your opencms files into a zip file which you
can then import into a working system again.
Regards
Christian

Hi Recks,
Have a look in your opencms-importexport.xml file:
$CATALINA_HOME/webapps/opencms/WEB-INF/config/opencms-importexport.xml
and change the following tag to true:
<userelativelinks>true</userelativelinks>
It may solve your problem.
If this is not the case, ensure that you have enable exporting on
your galleries/pics folder. Set export to true, touch -> publish ->
export to make it available.
Regards,
Panos

Hello,
Every information I've found about migrating OpenCms users from one system
to another refers to "regular" users. Our present problem is to migrate
Webusers, and these are not included when you do a database export with
"Include account data".
Can it be done just by extracting their data from the origin CMS_USERS table
(USER_TYPE = 2 ?) and inserting it "as is" in the destination one, or is
there something else? In particular, I'm worried about the complex structure
of the USER_ID, e.g. "1a54a631-97b9-11da-8b77-bb967f5326f1". Does it have a
meaning that is not "exportable"? Could we get duplicate key errors when
inserting it?
Or is there an official way to do this? Thanks for any suggestion,
Pere

I encountered the same problem some time ago with 6.0.2
My solution was to do smth like this in the beginning of the jsp (template
or standalone jsp):
response = CmsFlexController.getController(request).getTopResponse();
After doing this you have the the Top Response object in your jsp, which
will allow you to stream. The wrapped Response Objects in OpenCms get
Buffered anyway, I think.
Be carefull with includes ... they probably won't work.

Hi list,
I have registered two projects in sourceforge.net, one is opencms-oswf,
another is opencms-ldap.
Opencms-oswf is on the integration of osworkflow and opencms, you can get
the source code through svn or download our module. This project's homepage
is http://sourceforge.net/projects/opencms-oswf.
Opencms-ldap is to integrate ldap and opencms loosely. It's in planning
state now. I will try to post an alpha release before this May. This
project's homepage is http://sourceforge.net/projects/opencms-ldap/. The
release of this project will be tested on OpenLDAP, IBM Tivoli Directory
Server and MS Active Directory.

Hello!
I writed a couple of months ago a small ldap connector for opencms6.
Actually I used this connector in our school site .
You find the source and short description to
http://labo.esnig.ch/opencms6/opencms/esnig/ldi/projets/ldapconnector.html
For unique user identifier (UUID), I use the following idea:
At the first login of a ldap user, a opencms user is created in the database.
This way, I resolve the problem "how can I save the user preference".
I hope you can use it
Best regards

Hello!
I'm also interested in this project. I have experience developing JAAS-Modules. It is a good and flexible framework and I would like to dvelop a module which also to use a JAAS context for authentication and authorization. Using this approach we could use alsmost any source of credentials to authenticate against.
The main problem I see is mapping the more general roles from a JAAS module to the special semantics of OpenCMS - like the unique user identifier. Has anybody a good idea how to do this?

Dear all,
Has anyone tried out streaming with opencms 6.0.4?
I have:
- a site, consisting of HTML pages (resource type "xmlpage")
- JSP templates that are assigned to these pages
I have set the fileproperty streaming=true for the folder with all my pages and also for the folder with all my templates.
It doesn't seem to make any difference - I watch the cms log grow and only after the response has been completed on the server side, my browser seems to get some content.
Is there anything more I need to do?
Did it actually work for anyone of you?
Thanx

Hello Michael, thanks for the lead.
Unfortunately, the new system we need to move the webusres to is already in
place, so we need to solve this in the next couple of days, and can't
justify a version update.
Any comment to my thoughts about extracting/inserting CMS_USERS records? If
this direct table data migration is not possible, I guess I could extract
the webuser information from CMS_USERS, write a OpenCms program to create
new webusers in the new system using this data and dummy passwords, and then
update the passwords in the new table with the old data, but I'd prefer to
save the effort...
Thanks,
Pere

Hi Alex,
I understand that you don't want to change the new logo because it seems to be finished already.
But please allow to say what people think about the new logo as this is what you asked for in your email and on your website.
First of all let me point out, that everybody in our company was very surprised about the announcement of the new logo. Especially when finding out that it was already finished.
The community aspect:
As someone else on the list already mentioned it would have been better to involve the community in the development process of the new logo.
A best practice for this is the Typo3 project. Their process started a year before the final logo release. They built a "special project group", the community members could send their suggestions to them and finally there was a survey where every community member could vote for his/her favourite logo.
I think a process like this strengthens the community and its team spirit.
The marketing aspect:
Changing the logo just like that is also a problem for all the companies which have print media like flyers, displays for fairs (german: Messewand) etc.
Furthermore I think that the recognition of the OpenCms brand has not been taken into account. I can not find any similarities from the old to the new logo.
People who see OpenCms with the new logo will not automatically associate it with an OpenCms they probably saw or heard of earlier. They might think it is a new product.
Ok, enough for now.
I know that the things I pointed out partly implicate more work. But this must not automatically be done by Alkacon. OpenCms has a big community and I know that a lot of people are willing to take over community work, if possible.
Finally I want to say that we very much appreciate the work of Alkacon. We just think that some things could be fine tuned to work better.
Maybe you sleep another night and think about what I wrote and about the decision you made.
I would be glad if you change your mind and let the community participate in deciding about the new logo.
Regards
Kai

Hi All,
I posted a question about link validation in 6.2 beta and got one
response from someone (Ravi) saying the administration link validation
feature only checks links that use the <cms:link> tag. However, when I
look at the source of links I create using the OpenCMS editor (actually
FCKEditor) to create a link or image tag, it isn't using a cms:link in
the href or src attributes. Is it correct that link validation only
works in things like templates where a link is hand-coded, and not for
links contributors would create?
Thanks,
Dennis

I have a few folders I'd like to rename. I haven't seen that OpenCMS has
a way of updating links in moved content. Is there any way to do
anything regex-like in OpenCMS to find and replace strings in the
content to emulate what you can do with static content on the command
line on a UNIX host?
Thanks!

We bought the Alkacon OCEE package that includes the LDAP module.
It's very configurable, and I've tested it out with a variety of LDAP
schemas. We're currently using it with Apple's Open Directory
implementation of LDAP.
It has worked wonderfully for us, and the additional stuff like the
VFS Doctor you get with the OCEE package is quite comforting.

How to protect a folder in opencms 6.0.x ?
I try to give permission to some folder on opencms 6. (the way to give permission is different in opencms 5).
After given permission (the permission is given to Administrator), and after publish folder, a password is not ask me when i try to access to the folder files, Why ? In opencms 5, to protect some folder i use this way.
Can you explain how to protect folder in opencms 6 by give permission to it, like in opencms 5.
Can i import folder in opencms 5 to opencms 6 whith the same permissions ?
Can i import the users that i have created in opencms 5 to opencms 6

My problem is more subtle. Since the trees are different but the pages are a
sibling of one another, I cannot retrieve the path of the other locales'
page by taking the path of the currentUri since it is different (though the
filename is different). I may think of creating siblings of the folders but
I don't know in what mess it would end up.
Example:
/de/produkte/index.htm is the german page
A
!
V
/en/products/index.htm is the english page
A-V mark siblings
I need a method like getNextSibling() and test for the locale of that
sibling.
And then something like getResource or getPath on that object.

Hi Xin Ye,
I haven't upgraded to 6.2 as yet, but your sun-web.xml should read something
like:

Dear All,
I am really stuck during the installation. I've checked the mail archive and
done what they suggested, but mine still refused to work I edited the
permission in both client.policy and server.policy, I added the
<class-loader delegate="no" /> in sun-web.xml, but I still get the following
error at step 8 importing modules.
Please help. Windows XP Pro SP2 + Sun Application Server 8.2PE. I knew a
little bit of Java, but very new to this language, and not farmiliar with
any linux or unix system.

Thanks Michael,
This could be just what I'm after. I think we will be able to define enough
of our dependencies through the export-rules, which should save a huge
amount of time for the static export.
Thanks for the pointers.

I'm not sure whether the installation of the sun application server is the
right stuff. Wasn't mentioned somewhere that it is mandatory to install a
JDK? Just a j2re isn't sufficient.

I was looking at the Javadocs that are included in the 6.2 beta, and I
noticed the documentation for the <cms:decorator/> tag. This tag is
mentioned in a couple of feature lists for 6.2 but, (1) the tag appears not
to be in the taglib (and is only in the CVS attic, it appears), and (2) the
tag has no documentation.
Can someone fill me in? Is this going to be in 6.2? And what is it?
Curiously yours,
Matt

Hello!
I'm also interested in this project. I have experience developing
JAAS-Modules. It is a good and flexible framework and I would like to dvelop
a module which also to use a JAAS context for authentication and
authorization. Using this approach we could use alsmost any source of
credentials to authenticate against.
The main problem I see is mapping the more general roles from a JAAS module
to the special semantics of OpenCMS - like the unique user identifier. Has
anybody a good idea how to do this?

I would appreciate such a project on sourceforge and I will certainly
contribute to it. I have some expirience with integration of ldap in
commercial cms and with the user management in opencms. In the past such an
integration was never an essential need in my projects, but its surly nice
to have it available.

If no contribution available, I'll try to apply a project in

After i enter in to the workplace if do right click
and say edit page and do edit and publish. In that
case i can search the content.
If i clicked on the resource directly without right
click it opens in IE and then click on the edit button
which opens in editor after i save. I am not able to
see the publish button active. It doesnt checkout when
i do like this. how can we correct this problem.
Because of this i am not able to search the content
because it is not indexed unless i publish. If i go to
online project and come back it shows the publish
button.
How to refresh automatically.

It sounds like a css problem. Are you using IIS before tomcat? If so, there
is a bug on forwarding a 404 error form IIS to tomcat with the Apache
Jakarta Tomcat Connector.

I guess OCEE is on clustering, isn't it? If so, it's very complex.
The opencms-ldap project is aiming to answer a much simple question "can you
show me a demo how opencms can store user id and password in an ldap
server?", no more than that. :)

If you've carried out a full install then you'll have installed the Alkacon
documentation module. There should be links to documentation material from
the 'home' page of your server. Whether or not you think it's good is
another matter!

I could not find any method in org.opencms.jsp get to the siblings of
a page. Where else could I look? Is it burried in the VFS. Couldn't
find anything in org.opencms.file either.
Help, please.

I wonder whether there are ways to run webstatistics on a site, at least
on the resources that reside in the VFS. Has anyone done this? Or is
the servlet engine the wrong place and should that be handled outside
(in apache)?

You can use
public List readSiblings(String resourcename, CmsResourceFilter
filter) throws CmsException
from org.opencms.file.CmsObject

Hi Christoph,
CmsObject provides the requested method:
* java.util.List readSiblings(java.lang.String resourcename,
CmsResourceFilter filter)
*
getCmsObject method of CmsJspBean or CmsJspActionElement returns the
CmsObject.

Panos

Ah, thanks, Panos and Michael.
I had already org.opencms.file under suspicion.

I think its the wrong place, but there is a clickstream module vom
synyx.dewhich allows you to create statistics. I use awstats, which is
a simple
apache log file analyzer ...works perfect and gives very beautiful charts
and lists ;)

I'm running OpenCms in a CPanel environment, using mod_rewrite in Apache for
integration with Tomcat. The Apache access log is written as normal, and
therefore available to CPanel-integrated awstats, analog etc.

In your case it should be something like:
CmsXmlContent myXmlContent = CmsXmlContentFactory.unmarshal(cms,
resource, request);
String owner = myXmlContent.getStringValue(cms, "/Owner", locale);
where locale is your locale.

Hi,
I'm currently planning the migration of our OpenCms installations to our
new servers and find myself confronted with the question, whether I
should still use PostgreSQL 8 for it.
>From my point of view the bugs and problems are adding up, e.g. I still
can't delete users with OpenCms 6.0.4. All these problems start to have
a serious impact on the usability of OpenCms in connection with
PostgreSQL 8.
What do you think: Is there room for hope for a maintenance of the
PostgreSQL 8 implementation, or should I switch to another database
(which would be a pain, since we are only using PostgreSQL 8 on our
online servers)?
Best regards,
Roman

I haven't tried it, but the schemas looked like they would work
happily. It's more flexible in terms of configuration than other LDAP
projects that I've had working with AD.

Dear list,
I'm using a couple of access databases in addition to the main MySQL
database on our intranet for various bits of HR information. We have a
Sage personnel system in place, and have a separate company information
database with general non-confidential bits and pieces.
The problem I'm having seems to be related to OpenCms's connection pool
wanting to have an exclusive connection to each of these 2 databases,
such that if I reboot Tomcat while someone is updating the files, the
system fails on initialisation of the connection pool. Also, if the
system is initialised ok, once someone opens up the sage database
OpenCms is unable to retrieve information for the duration that the file
is in use.
Similarly, if I try to open the other access database while OpenCms is
loaded, I can only open it as read-only, which is no good for day-to-day
updating.
The OpenCms system & MySQL are running on a dedicated webserver, whereas
the access databases are located on our fileserver. I have granted read
& execute permissions to the machine running OpenCms on the necessary
directories, and am trying to specify read-only, non-exclusive database
connections in the OpenCms connection pool string.
I wonder if anyone has encountered this problem before, or knows more
about the internal working of the connection pool and hence how I might
be able to remedy the situation?
I suppose we could get round the problem by duplicating the databases,
specifying a daily/weekly publishing period and making sure people know
the appropriate validity times for the data, but it would be preferable,
if possible, to render all changes in real time.
Do you know if it's possible to do this using access databases?
By the way, the databases are initialised using the following strings:
db.pool.access.jdbcUrl=jdbc:odbc:Driver={Microsoft Access Driver
(*.mdb)};DBQ=\\\\pegasus02\\Company\\Business System Development\\BSD
Shared Info\\CompanyInfo.mdb;Exclusive=No;READONLY=true
db.pool.sage.jdbcUrl=jdbc:odbc:Driver={Microsoft Access Driver
(*.mdb)};DBQ=\\\\pegasus02\\sage
personnel\\DATA\\Perdata.mdb;SystemDB=\\\\Pegasus02\\sage

Jon -
I don't know much about the OpenCms end, but it feels odd that it would ask
for exclusive access. Are you sure the problem isn't at the Access end?
I'd first try getting into the ODBC Control Panel thing and ensuring that
the properties of the ODBC DSN concerned are set appropriately. You could
also make sure that it isn't something in system.mdw which is causing the
problem - I guess by temporarily removing security constraints.

hi!
got them to work flawlessly!
well and i just did what the help says:
1.) set the template property of your template to the absolute path of
the css-file (e.g. /system/modules/mymod/resources/css/screen.css)
2.) create a plain text file having ${CSS-FILE}_style.css as name next
to your css-file (e.g.
/system/modules/mymod/resources/css/screen.css_style.xml)
3.) insert the following style definitions in xml-format (copied from:
/system/workplace/resources/editors/fckeditor/fckstyles.xml)
<Styles>
<Style name="Image on Left" element="img">
<Attribute name="style" value="padding: 5px; margin-right: 5px" />
<Attribute name="border" value="2" />
<Attribute name="align" value="left" />
</Style>
<Style name="Image on Right" element="img">
<Attribute name="style" value="padding: 5px; margin-left: 5px" />
<Attribute name="border" value="2" />
<Attribute name="align" value="right" />
</Style>
<Style name="Custom Bold" element="span">
<Attribute name="style" value="font-weight: bold;" />
</Style>
<Style name="Custom Italic" element="em" />
<Style name="Title" element="span">
<Attribute name="class" value="Title" />
</Style>
<Style name="Code" element="span">
<Attribute name="class" value="Code" />
</Style>
<Style name="Title H3" element="h3" />
<Style name="Custom Ruler" element="hr">
<Attribute name="size" value="1" />
<Attribute name="color" value="#ff0000" />
</Style>
</Styles>
4.) enjoy editing your content in your template-styles (e.g.
backgrounds, font-sizes, etc...) with the possibility to select custom
styles acoording to those defined in the xml-file!
hope this helps!
joachim
ps: if your stylesheet defines styles which are dependant from other
styles, the editor may not show the "whole big picture"...

Thanks to Ivan Codarin, there is a good chance that the issues with with
PostgeSQL 8 are solved in the upcoming 6.2.0 release. According to Ivan, all
Junit test work fine.
