Many properties are just there because they were used in the
OpenCms workplace. At the first glance I also was puzzled by the
many properties and what they were for. Actually, besides template, Title and
the Nav* properties little is used in all day programming.

You can add your own property by using the Define Button at the bottom of the
property sheet. There is a workplace tool in the adminstration section to
remove a property again.

Though not always the cleanest method but abusing an existing property
for something of your own is a common practise, I've heard :)
