Before I left office into Christmas vacation our site went down due to
some obscure catalina parse error. I installed a backup of the tomcat
conf and bin directory from the day before the error occured the first
time. I'm not sure whether it is an intrusion of only some other
weirdness.

Anyway, I find our site again gone down (looking into it from my holiday
location at present).

Here is an excerpt from the log (catalina_log) where the first error
occurs. The errors then following are a consequence of this error most
probably:

INFO: Starting service Catalina
22.12.2008 12:19:33 org.apache.catalina.core.StandardEngine start
INFO: Starting Servlet Engine: Apache Tomcat/6.0.10
22.12.2008 12:19:33 org.apache.tomcat.util.digester.Digester
fatalError
SCHWERWIEGEND: Parse Fatal Error at line 1 column 1: Content is not
allowed in prolog.
org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: Content is not allowed in prolog.
        at
com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.util.ErrorHandlerWrapper.createSAX
ParseException(Unknown Source)
        at
com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.util.ErrorHandlerWrapper.fatalError(Unknown
Source)

Anyone knowing of security problems with Tomcat 6 or having an idea
which configuration file could be the cuplrit?
