I don't have to.

I used mysqldump to dump the database, created a new database in
mysql-console and imported the dump filling the new database.

the user specified in opencms (old), opencms (new) and the
mysql-console-user is the same having all necessary right.
I can read the new database from the console just fine

however, the opencms.log tells me that there's a problem accessing the
database which i absolutely don't understand.

What I actually want to know is if the procedure I've described in my
previous post is feasable in general.
