[opencms-dev] OpenCms 9.5 installation stops with no indication what's happening

Hi Tobias,

usually I get an Exception when I run out of PermGen. But that didn't happen.
Anyway, since it's working now and my time is limited, I'll stop looking for the cause.
But thanks for your suggestion anyway.

Cheers

Kai

Hi Kai,

I think you are probably running out of permgen space. Try to increase the MaxPermSpace setting and see if that helps.

Best regards,

Tobias

Hi Fabian,

my Xmx is on 2048. But like Kai Schliemann I had another OpenCms instance (8.5) and another (tiny) webapp running the same Tomcat. Even though of my 2 GB only one was used and my physical memory did have some reserves as well, it didn't work. My max_allowed_packet_size is only 64 MB, but it was the same on the Mac, so that's not it.

I removed all existing webapps from the container, then it worked. For whatever reason, somehow multiple OpenCms instances in the same container seem to cause the trouble.

Żubrówka,

Kai

Hi Kais,

what's the max heap (-Xmx) of the JVM? I have installed 9.5 on X 10.9.5 and Win7 with -Xmx1024 and a max_allowed_packet size of 512M (if you are using MySQL).

No problems were encountered (other than library conflicts for a testupgrade :-))

Hi Kai,

thanks for the hint. I have 6 GB installed, but many apps open, so I'll close whatever isn't needed and I'll try again. I'll let you know if this did solve my problems.

Cheers

Kai

Hi Kai,

my workmate Sven had the same problem today. In his case it was a memory issue. He had just 4GB of physical RAM in his machine. We plugged in 4 more GB. With now 8GB the installation went smoothly. At least he didn't tell me otherwise.

I am going to install it right now to test and let you know, if I have the same problem.

Best regards

Kai

Hey there,

I'm just trying to install OpenCms 9.5 on windows (Win 7) with the most recent Tomcat 7 (7.0.56) with Mysql 5.6.10. I had no trouble installing it with a similar configuration on a Mac, but on Windows it just stops with no indication as to what went wrong.

setup.log stops in the middle of a word:

686: ( 55 / 70 ) Parsing links for "/system/workplace/galleries/linkgallery/js/integrator_editor.js"... o.k.

687: ( 56 / 70 ) Parsing links for "/system/workplace/galleries/linkgallery/js/integrator_widget.js"... o.k.

The web installer's "Import modules" dialog hangs during "importing modules .. please wait":

665: ( 34 / 70 ) Parsing links for "/system/workplace/galleries/htmlgallery/fckplugin.js"... o.k.

664: ( 33 / 70 ) Parsing links for "/system/workplace/galleries/htmlgallery/ajaxcalls.jsp"... o.k.

663: ( 32 / 70 ) Parsing links for "/system/workplace/galleries/galleryelements/upload.jsp"... o.k.

No other Logfile (Tomcat or OpenCms) gives any hint as to what is happening. My Xmx is set to 2 GB, so memory shouldn't be a problem (and there's no exception thrown anyway).

I've tried this multiple times and waited for about an hour, every time with a similar result. Although it seemed to stop at slightly different points during module import.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Any ideas on how to solve this?

Sure I could export the database on the Mac and copy both database and

webapp to the windows machine, but this just doesn't feel right ;)

Cheers and thanks for any help

Kai
