Hi Thomas,
I am not sure, if it helps you, but I want to let you know, that there is an ExcelImport module out there, that can generate xmlcontents out of data stored in an excel file.
More information about that can be found here: http://www.alkacon.com/de/modules/downloads/oamp-excelimport-2.0.0.html
If you are interested in an RSS feed, have a look here: http://www.alkacon.com/de/modules/downloads/oamp-feeder-2.0.0.html

Best regards
Kai

Betreff: [opencms-dev] Feed content from external source, e.g. eMail or RSS feed

Hello,
I have a „News“ formatter/content-type which creates simply some headline, date, some text and may some photos at the end. This is pretty simple and can be added to a container page. For each new news entry this content type (from this formatter) can be added via „Add content“ dialog in page editor.

Now i’m looking for a solution which extracts the content of e.g. an eMail (or whatever source - could be also whatever XML) and creates the content out of that. The content should be editable in the same way as all the rest of the page is (inline) editable.

I might be wrong but dynamic functions create content which is not (inline) editable in a way other content can be edited which came with „normal“ formatters.
For UGC i could’t find any advise how to add content programmatically - all documentation show how to use web forms - however UGC comes the requirement quiet near ...

Is there any way to import, load or feed content from whatever source ?

This could be any approach using a java interface or accessing over VFS …

Any kind of hint is very welcome !

Many thanks
Kind Regards
Thomas Schmidt
