Ivan
I suspect you installed opencms on Tomcat on the default port 8080 ( or another port) and now try to login on the default port ( 80) which default is served by apache (httpd).
That can work but requires a configuration.
See https://documentation.opencms.org/opencms-documentation/server-installation/traditional-with-apache-webserver/index.html
You can work without apache see https://documentation.opencms.org/opencms-documentation/server-installation/installing-opencms/
But then make sure apache does not run and tomcat serves port 80.

Thank Jan for your reply. I believe this has something to do with OpenCMS because when I look at the logs it shows the login was successful. However, when I try to select the Launchpad or any Workplace selection, I am getting the 403.shtml error message. I installed OpenCMS as ROOT.war so there are no sub-url issues to report. Hope this helps. Thanks for your help.

Hello Ivan Sr,

403 HTTP status code means "forbidden", and 404 stands for "not found".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_HTTP_status_codes

Could it be: Login fails, the login page tries to serve some 403.shtml. What is strange: I do not think, OpenCms has anything to do with the 403.shtml. I do not have a lot of experience with OpenCms, but I never saw a .shtml file extension in the default installation.

(And then, because file 403.shtml is not found, the webserver gives the 404 error.)

Could it be, that some of this is not related to OpenCms?
If on /opencms/login/ I enter a wrong login, I am redirected again to /opencms/login, and there appears a small message in grey below the password field "Login failed".

Please give some more installation

- Webserver
- Sub-url you try to install OpenCms in
- Sub-url of the login page
- How does the login page look like? The one from my OpenCms 12 installation looks like the attached screenshot. I just want to make sure, that we are talking about the same thing.

Best regards,

Jan Michael Greiner

The requested resource "/403.shtml" was not found on the server.

This server runs OpenCms - the open source content management system!
