[opencms-dev] whats the purpose of the file type xml_template

hi,

I'm using opencms 4.6.1 and wonder what the file type xml_template is good
for. If i want to generate a new file, i click the new icon, then i can
choose the file type of the new file. Except for the xml template type all
file types are clear to me and i know what i can use them for.

First i thought i have to use this type to create a new template file
(master, frame, content, element,...) but in the "template mechanism"
chapter the documentation suggests to use the text file type.
