[this is being cross-posted to opencms and typo3 lists]
Sorry if this has been asked 1000's of times before - i attempted to
search the archives at:
: Typo3, but they are not reachable
(http://lists.netfielders.de/pipermail/typo3-english/).
: OpenCMS - but these yielded few results (the few results said
that Typo's image manipulation and news module were better)
In short, i am trying to compare OpenCMS and Typo3:
0. *Are there any other _open source_ AND free contenders to OpenCMS
and Typo3 at the moment?*
1. *What features does OpenCMS have that Typo3 does not have?*
2. *What features does Typo3 have that OpenCMS does not have?*
3. *Why would you choose one over the other?*
Both seem mature and very active
I realise that OpenCMS is Java based and Typo3 is PHP based (this is not
an issue for us, our IT department has mainly Java and PHP developers).
Features seem similar:
- Image Manipulation - currenly Typo's seems better - is this
correct?
- Workflow - currently OpenCMS's seems better - is this correct?
- Clustering/Load Balancing - OpenCMS say there's does it
automatically - does Typo3 have anything like this?
- Modules - it appears that Typo3 has many more modules avaiable
then OpenCMS?
- OpenCMS is XML based - does this mean it stores XML in the db
or generates XML from the db? pros and cons?
- Typo3 generates html straight from the db (?) - pros and cons?
- Both are extensible via modules - which is easier to develop for?
- Both have user managment/permissions - which is better?
- Both do 'project based publishing' - is either one better?
- Both do caching - is either one better?
- Both are WYSIWIG - is either one better?
- Both have versioning - is either one better?
- Templates are available in both - either one better?
- Personalisation available in both - either one better?
Thanks for any feedback. If i get enough i'll cross post my findings :)
Cheers
Jon
